Investing in College Futures Program
Michigan Campus Compact (MCC), in consortia with Michigan’s colleges and universities and in collaboration with statewide partners, facilitated the implementation of service and service-learning projects through the Investing in College Futures (ICF) Program. This initiative benefited disadvantaged youth and positively reinforced the merits of higher education among current students and disadvantaged youth. Support from the Corporation for National Community Service assisted MCC to implement ICF and the sustainable service-learning projects it generated, enhancing the educational landscape for current and future students.
- The ICF Grant Program served 5,667 disadvantaged youth over a 3 year period. Of these youth, 49% reported increased success in school and 65% reported that because of the LSA sponsored program they participated in, they want to go to college more, or much more.
- During 2006-2009, 2,583 college students serviced disadvantaged youth in their communities. With 97% of them reporting that they had a strong desire to continue their education after their participation in the LSA sponsored project.
- The average retention rate for participating students was 92%. Fourteen percent higher than the average institutional retention rate of 78%.
- In total, the ICF program engaged 9,678 individuals:
- 2,583 College Students
- 626 Teachers, Faculty, Staff
- 811 Community Volunteers
- 5667 Disadvantaged Youth
Investing in College Futures was comprised of 3 subgrants:

- Brighter Futures grants helped campus/community partnerships form and developed new courses and service projects that addressed the needs of disadvantaged youth.
- Campus Engagement Fellows provided logistical and programmatic training to develop student leaders who contributed to building a sustainable culture of service-learning and civic engagement on their campus.
