Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

Grants for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service activities are available to all Michigan Campus Compact member campuses as needed, based on availability. Campuses awarded grants will be expected to recruit up to 125 participants from their campus and can also recruit volunteers from other Michigan Campus Compact member campuses in their region. Preference will be given to applicants that partner with local schools or agencies to recruit youth volunteers, with special emphasis on disadvantaged youth.

Awardees Expectations
All awardees will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide an opportunity for students to be involved in a service project in celebration of MLK Day of Service
  • Recruit 125 participants to be involved in service activities including students, community partners and youth
  • Register all participants, tracking numbers of students, faculty, staff, youth, community members involved, including a 15% minority involvement
  • Incorporate reflection and integration of Martin Luther King, Jr. throughout your events
  • Register your service project online at MLKDay.gov
  • Complete a Project Report at the conclusion of the project

What Michigan Campus Compact Will Provide

  • Up to $500 mini grant for each Host Campus to assist with cost of resources
  • An MLK Challenge “how to” toolkit
  • An informational website
  • Access to materials to utilize during service event
  • Support!!!
