Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is camp like?
Service Leadership Camp is a very interactive and fun 2 ½ days training. At Service Leadership Camp, we gather students from around the state, we offering large group sessions, workshops and teambuilding opportunities for student leaders who want to lead service on their campus.
Camp is a relaxed environment, with casual dress. In addition to training opportunities, there are also opportunities to use the swimming, gym, basketball, volleyball facilities.
2. What is “team time”?
A few opportunities are offered throughout the weekend for “team time”. This time is set aside for students from the same campus to gather to discuss program planning, do teambuilding, or make action plans for the coming year. Many campuses attend camp alongside a campus advisor, or student leader. Team time essentially allows campuses the opportunity to brainstorm and prepare for leading service, specific to the campus they attend. Click here for ideas on how team time can de used.
3. Do I need to bring an advisor?
You are definitely encouraged to attend, regardless whether or not you decide to bring an advisor. Students are only separated by campus during team time. Student leaders who attend as individuals will join together to be led by Michigan Campus Compact staff in teambuilding exercises, program planning and development.
4. Who typically attends camp?
Attendees at Service Leadership Camp are generally student leaders involved in: student organizations, alternative breaks, or student government. If you are involved in service events on campus or want to begin leading service, Service Leadership Camp is right for you!
5. When do I pay my $115 conference fee?
The $115 is non-refundable, but can be transferred to someone else. The conference fee is due and payable upon the time of registration. Registration is not processed until payment is received.
If you are attending with a campus advisor, please turn your registration into your advisor. Any questions or concerns regarding payment can be directed to Michigan Campus Compact’s main offices at 517.492.2424.
