Students participating in a Brighter Futures Learn and Serve grant program at Ferris State University.

Campus Engagement Fellows

During the 2009-2010 academic year, Michigan Campus Compact (MCC), with the support of the Investing in College Futures (ICF) Learn and Serve grantprogram, will offer an estimated five competitive reimbursement grants of up to $2,000.00 each for MCC member campuses. Each selected campus will select two students to participate in this project as a team. The goal of this program is to provide logistical and programmatic training to develop two new student leaders who can contribute to building a sustainable culture of service-learning and civic engagement on their campus in conjunction with the Community Service Director (CSD)/Service-Learning director (SLD).

The student teams, with the help of their CSD/SLD and MCC staff, will engage the campus and community in a Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Day of Service event that addresses the needs of disadvantaged youth, mobilizes college students to become civically engaged citizens, and contributes to building a supportive infrastructure for civic engagement on campus.

Proposals must be received by Friday, May 18, 2009

Quotes from 2008-2009 C. E. Fellows

“My most memorable experience was coming together to the meetings in Lansing and using MCC as a spring board to many great ideas. Even though we were all from different schools I felt that we all helped each other out in one way or another with our service projects.” -Charles Pelham UM-Dearborn

“The most memorable part of CE Fellows, for me, was the actual day of service. To see everyone coming together and doing something for others, going through with my plan and making it a success was wonderful.” – Robin Dewey Delta College
