College Positive Volunteerism Toolkit
The CPV Toolkit is a portable and easy-to-use resource for trained CPVs to use when volunteering with K-12 youth and adult learners. Each college student trained as a CPV receives this toolkit, so that they have resources, activities and college access information at their fingertips when carrying out their CPV service. You can download the toolkit in its entirety above.
Toolkit Sections
You may also choose to download and/or print only specific sections of the CPV toolkit. Below are the 7 sections of the toolkit, easily downloaded with Adobe Reader 9.
Before You Volunteer- Section 1
This section of the toolkit contains information that is useful to college students to know before they volunteer with K-12 youth and adult learners. It include a pre-volunteering checklist, answers to frequently asked questions about college, and an activity to complete about a CPV’s own college or university.
Elementary School Students- Section 2
This section is focused on college-positive activities to complete with elementary school students. These activities are organized by the length of the interaction: event-based, short term, or long term.
Middle School Students- Section 3
This section is centered on college-positive activities to complete with middle school students. These activities are organized by the length of the interaction: event-based, short term, or long term.
High School Students- Section 4
This section is concentrated on college-positive activities to complete with high school students. These activities are organized by the length of the interaction: event-based, short term, or long term.
Ways to Pay for College- Section 5
This section is a great resource for college students to learn about the multiple college payment options that are available to K-12 youth and adult learners. This section contains information on family/personal savings, scholarships, grants, college work study, working and paying as you go, private and bank loans, state and federal loans, state and federal financial aid and the FAFSA.
Additional Resources- Section 6
This section contains helpful college access resources including a campus visit checklist, an online scavenger hunt, a career exploring self-inventory and a compiliation of online college resources.
Glossary- Section 7
This section contains a glossary of college access and success terms and their definitions.

This resource provides websites, publications, and Michigan programs that serve as a starting point to explore various technical or vocational opportunities.
College Access Resources: Military Programs for College Students
This resource provides details about several United States Armed Forces programs which provide college tuition assistance, living stipends, leadership skills training, and more. CPVs can utilize this guide when discussing the many postsecondary options with youth.
College Positive Activities for Youth with Disabilities
This resource offers suggestions for college-positive activities to complete with K-12 youth who have disabilities. This document also contains links to college access resources designed specifically for youth with disabilities.
College Positive Activities to do without a Computer
Many of the CPV toolkit activities involve the use of a computer. This document outlines activities that a CPV can do with K-12 youth or adult learners when they do not have access to a computer.

Michigan eLibrary ACT/SAT Prep Resources
The Michigan eLibrary (MeL) is a great resource for K-12 youth and adult learners preparing for the ACT and/or SAT. This step-by-step guide helps CPVs to introduce youth and adult learners to these test prep resources.
These are the stories of six college students, who are the first in their immediate family to attend college. Each student shares their experiences of applying, enrolling, and being successful in college to encourage upcoming first-generation students that college is possible for them! These videos can be used by College Positive Volunteers, and other adults who serve K-12 youth and want to help those youth access college. Each video includes a brief summary of the video’s contents as well as links to any additional information mentioned.
College Positive Mentoring Toolkit
Mentor Michigan and Michigan Campus Compact developed the College Positive Mentoring Toolkit, designed to provide mentors with information, conversation starters, match activity ideas, and ready-to-use activities, to help their mentees take important steps toward higher education. Feel free to explore, print, and share these resources with your program staff and mentors to empower the young people in your program to consider education beyond high school as a realistic option, as well as to equip them with the tools to plan for and attend post-secondary education.

The Hispanic American Council of Kalamazoo has translated the College Positive Volunteerism Toolkit content into Spanish.
