Community Service-Volunteer Services
Presidential Statement on Civic Engagement - James Bultman, President of Hope College
Hope College takes seriously its role in our society and in our community. Our expectation is that many, perhaps most, of our campus community will engage in deeds of service, some of which are recognized, many which are unknown.
Three of the more visible deeds of service at Hope are:
1. 400 freshman students participate annually in a day of community service during orientation week at Hope. This is organized through the Student Development Office.
2. 150 Hope students are paired with at-risk elementary students for on campus academic assistance twice weekly throughout the academic year in our Children's After School Achievement (CASA) program. This is organized through the Academic Support Office.
3. 350 Hope students and faculty/staff assistants go to both domestic and international sites during each spring break to offer physical and spiritual encouragement to those less fortunate. This is organized through the Campus Ministries Office.
