1. The 2008-2009 Students4Giving RFP is available! Campus Compact and the Fidelity® Charitable Gift Fund are delighted to announce the 2008-2009 Students4Giving Request for Proposals to educate and inspire a new generation of philanthropists in a new era of giving. The Students4Giving initiative will provide colleges and universities with the educational resources and initial funding to engage students in strategic grant making activities within the context of community-based learning. Campus Compact member colleges and universities are invited to respond to this Request for Proposals to be eligible to participate in Students4Giving as one of ten new programs located throughout the country. www.compact.org/students4giving/2008/ 2. New Civic Engagement Publication Now Available - Based on work of the Bonner Foundation and authored by Ariane Hoy and Wayne Meisel, Civic Engagement at the Center highlights how campuses across the country are developing curricular and cocurricular models for students’ civic learning and socially responsible leadership. On April 17, AAC&U's Core Commitments initiative released a new report titled, "Should Colleges Focus More on Personal and Social Responsibility?" The report, drawing preliminary findings from the Personal and Social Responsibility Institutional Inventory, reveals that students, faculty, academic administrators, and student affairs personnel all believe these issues should be a major focus of campus attention. However, it also suggests a gap between aspirations and the climate actually experienced on campus. Learn more about Core Commitments, and read the press release or the entire initial report. 4. As part of the Corporation for National and Community Service’s effort to expand the amount of quality research on volunteering, civic engagement, and national service, I wanted to let you know that the Corporation is looking to support researchers at institutions of higher education who will expand scholarly and policy research. To fund this work, the Corporation will make available approximately $500,000 which will be used to make one to five awards, ranging from approximately $50,000 to $300,000. Apply to be a 2009 Global Youth Service Day Lead Agency - Looking for a way to increase participation in your programs while connecting with the larger youth service movement? Apply to be a Lead Agency for GYSD 2009. Lead Agencies are organizations across the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario, or New Brunswick that increase the scope, visibility, and sustainability of GYSD by leading city, regional, or statewide service projects. Past Lead Agencies have been successful in garnering national media attention, developing new partnerships, and engaging elected and public officials in their service and service-learning projects. Lead Agencies receive a $2,000 GYSD planning grant sponsored by State Farm Companies Foundation and direct assistance and support from Youth Service America to ensure a successful GYSD. Michigan Campus Compact is accepting Brighter Futures Grant Applications through May 30. 1. The College of William & Mary Office of Student Volunteer Services invites applicants for a full-time staff position (12 month continuing appointment). The Youth Service Opportunities Project (YSOP) is a Quaker based nonprofit organization, founded in 1983, dedicated to giving middle school, high school and college students the opportunity to help others through volunteer service. YSOP provides volunteers to ongoing programs at service agencies helping homeless and hungry people in New York City and Washington DC. The Washington DC Program Director is responsible for the planning and execution of all YSOP programs in the Washington, DC area, service-learning programs and technical assistance provided to schools, religious organizations and AmeriCorps programs. National Campus Compact VISTA Leader - The overarching objective of the national Campus Compact VISTA leader position is to support state Campus Compact VISTA projects in their efforts to support members and build the long-term capacity of an organization.
